Beginning of 2015 License Plate Quilt

The first "block" of my 2015 Row By Row License Plate quilt is done.

It measures 12 1/2 x 16 unfinished.

The 2015 Row By Row Experience runs from June 21 to Sept 8.
Each participating shop will give away a free row pattern to customers who come to the store.
They also MAY sell license plates with cute sayings.
Some shops have started selling the license plates.

I begin with the fabric license plates that are now on sale.

I'm going to try to collect one plate from each state.
All 50 states are participating this year!

I'm using my bin of selvages that I've been collecting for years.
I cut the selvages 1 1/2" when I trim them off the fabric. So MOST of these strips are 1 1/2".

I sew a strip on the top and bottom of the license plate, then the sides.
Trim to 6 1/2" x 10".

Then I use a 4" square in a square block, add selvages to SIDES first then top and bottom.
Trim to 6 1/2" square.

These 4 are ready to be sewn together.

I can begin a vertical row or...

I can begin a horizontal row. But for now I will leave them as blocks.

Until I get more license plates I can begin sewing selvage strips on these blocks!

More Fussy Square People

The current round for the Fussy Square Block Swap is people. I have been collecting people fabric for maybe 15 years or more. So I decided to make a second set of People. A set is 12 blocks and they can all be the same or all different or any combination. I pulled out 2 different fabrics and made 6 each.
These are cheerleaders. Go quilters go!

These dark skinned beauties have always been a favorite.

My +1 to go with this set of people is this kangaroo block.
The center and outer corners are from the same piece of fabric.
I like the busy aboriginal fabrics. I like all the swirls and dots.

Personal Challenge Fussy Cut Blocks

I am doing a personal challenge with a friend.
We each choose a theme and make 2 blocks of both themes.
Then I get to choose one of each from her set and she chooses one of each from my set.
These are my rounds so far.

Round 1: Music and Monkeys
(She chose the 2 on the Right.)
These are her blocks.
I chose the 2 on the Right.

Round 2: Bicycles and Pirates
(She chose the 2 on the Bottom.)

These are her blocks.
I chose the 2 on the Left.

Round 3: Bunnies and Bumblebees
(She chose the Bottom 2.)
I haven't seen her blocks yet for this round.

Round 4: Dinosaurs and Dragonflies
(She hasn't chosen yet...)

My next theme is Happiness.
I know I'm getting way ahead but that's just me. :)

Fussy Square Block Swap Round 16: People & Happy Mother's Day

On Flickr there is a group called Fussy Square Block Swap. I've mentioned this group before. We make 12 blocks per month of the chosen theme. This month it's PEOPLE. Sign ups are open until May 15th and the blocks are due May 31st. All blocks are to be made with the economy block foundation found HERE. If you join us please read the part about how you have to download the pattern THEN print it. If you print from your computer screen the blocks will be 4 1/4" instead of the required 4 1/2".

These are my peeps. The women are from a Loralie Design called Gone Shopping.
My extra block (my plus one) is this:
If you're going shopping you need a free parking spot with extra cash to spend!!

These are 2 blocks I'm keeping for myself.

All these will be mailed to Laurie--our swap guru. She makes sure everyone gets 12 blocks in return for the 12 they send in. Some people sign up for 2 spots so they make 24 blocks--2 different sets of 12. These ladies were so much fun to make. They make me happy, I hope they will make my swap friends happy too.

I made a selvage quilt using these ladies.

I called the quilt "Gone Fabric Shopping" 2009.

Look at all the selvages I cut off the many pieces of fabric I've gone shopping for over the years.
(This is a small dent in my selvages!)

And while I was having fun playing with these ladies I made a tiny quilt ornament for my mother.
Happy Mother's Day! I love you!

She won't be allergic to the cats on the back.   :)

I'm sharing this on Crazy Mom Quilts Finish It Friday.

Many Mini Maryland Snowman Quilts

These are mini snowman quilts that I did the ornament tutorial for last Friday.

These 10 mini quilts still need buttons on the bows.

Done!

Each one is 4 1/2" square plus the ribbon.

These 5 have brown eyes.

These 5 have dark blue eyes.

All 10 of these Snowman Ornaments are for sale in my Etsy Shop.
$10.00 each and free shipping.
Note these the mini quilts are the colors of the Maryland state flag--red, white, black and yellow.
Although I call these ornaments they are NOT Christmas-y. They can be hung on a wall as a decoration. Enjoy.

There is nothing better than Crazy Mom Quilts Finish it Friday link ups for motivation to finish something!
