Quilting the Row by Row--2 at a time

Last weekend Earl and Katie returned from their Maui Honeymoon tanned and happy with the row from the Maui Quilt Shop for me. This will go on the friends/family swap side of my row by row since I didn't personally walk into the shop to get the pattern.

Maui Quilt Shop in Kihei, HI
Thank you Earl and Katie!! What a nice memory to add to this 2015 quilt!!!

And while I am waiting for the last 2 rows to complete my 18 row quilt I started quilting the rows back to back. One side is all shops I went to and the other side is swapped rows or rows from friends.

Hopefully by next week I'll have all the rows done and quilted.

Linking to Finish it Friday at Crazy Mom Quilts.

Row By Row 2015--the Second Batch of Rows

This is the second group of rows for my 2015 Row By Row quilt so far.
The wine row will go on the front of the quilt with the first 8 rows.
All the rest of these rows kits were obtained thru friends and family.
So, these will be the back side of the row by row quilt.

The Sewing Studio, Inc. in Martinsville, VA

Earl and Katie got married!

My son Earl Holman married Katie Brant on 7-25-2015 in Pinehurst, NC.

Katie is gorgeous inside and out! We love her and Earl is so thrilled to finally marry her.
John and I thank our friends and family that made the trip to Pinehurst, NC for some golf and the wedding festivities.

This is the rest of the wedding party.
What a fun bunch of young adults.

We wish for them a lifetime of good health and happiness.

(No quilting on this trip!)

Row By Row 2015--the First 8 Rows

The Row By Row Experience for 2015 started on June 21. Each shop will give out a free pattern for a "row" that measures 9" x 36". Quilters collect rows and put them together to win a prize---more fabric! I have sworn that I will buy ZERO fabric this sumer unless it is in one of the row kits. (But winning fabric is OK!)
Since 6/21 I have visited:

Capital Quilts in Gaithersburg, MD
Traditions At The White Swan in Hagerstown, MD
Patches in Mt Airy, MD.
Calvert Quilt Shop in Prince Frederick, MD
Sewlovelee in White Stone, VA,
The Crazy Cousin in Fredericksburg, VA
Quilt Studio in Fredericksburg, VA
Bonnies's Sewing & Fabric in Stafford, VA
The Quilt Vine in Trappe, MD
Mare's Bears in Lewes, DE
Serendipity Quilt Shop in Dagsboro, DE
Cottonseed Glory in Annapolis, MD
Cary Quilting Company in Cary, NC
Thread Waggle in Raleigh, NC
Lindarella's Quilt Works in Southern Pines, NC
Ye Olde Forest Quilt Shop in Greensboro, NC
Studio Stitch in Greensboro, NC
Sew Original in Winston-Salem, NC

From those 18 quilt shops this is what I've got sewn so far:

See the spider face as the dark blue center square? :)

I eliminated the posts and rope that went in front of the cabanas. It didn't work for me.

The Crazy Cousin in Fredericksburg, VA.
I love these crazy ducks!! Their boat is still roped to the dock!

Bonnie's Sewing & Fabric in Stafford, VA.
This kit had the raindrop fabric cut the wrong direction to be falling gently from the sky. As a result I've got these poor boats in the eye of a hurricane swirling around them. The rain fabric and the boat fabric is part of the 2015 Row by Row H20 fabric line.

This is my LQS when I'm in NC. Love her patterns and her shop. So cheerful!

Cary Quilting Company in Cary, NC.
Sasha went with me on this road trip to get the elephants.
I entered a photo of her and Bobbin in front of this shop in the Bobbin contest.

Studio Stitch in Greensboro, NC.
These Kaffe Fasset fish are just SO adorable!!
(I re-drew the hook. I didn't like the one on the pattern.)

Serendipity Quilt Shop in Dagsboro, DE.
This appliqué is ONE PIECE. It took 1 hr and  25 min to machine appliqué it!
It took longer than that to cut it out! Interesting process...

The rules for the row by row say that if you make at least 8 rows and put them in a quilt that is then quilted and bound you can turn it in at a participating shop to win 25 fat quarters of fabric. Each shop can only have one winner and there may be a bonus prize if that shop's row appears in the quilt. Now that I've got 8 rows done I'm going to work on the back of the quilt...another 8 rows!! Summer FUN!

Bridal Shower Gifts for Katie

This is a pieced, quilted ornament keepsake for Katie & Earl.

It was easy to piece.
Fussy cut the letters and curves.

Sew vertical seams.

Sew horizontal seams.

These are all fabrics from The Love Project quilt.

The back has University of Maryland fabric.
That is where they met and fell in love.
This is "The Love Project" quilt.
The design is a cross stitch pattern by the Tiny Modernist.
It was a free pattern posted on the Tiny Modernist Facebook page 2-14-15.

I made the quilt into a puzzle with all these things hidden in the quilt.
Welcome to the family, Katie!
