Super Easy Fabric Basket tutorial

Super Easy Fabric Baskets

These are about 6" tall and 6" wide.
The LEFT basket was made from (56) 2" squares.
Bottom piece 6 1/2 x 11.
Backing and batting 20 x 13.

The RIGHT basket was made from (30) 2 1/2" squares.
Bottom piece 6 1/2 x 10 1/2".
Backing and batting 20 x 13.

Using 2 1/2" squares:
Sew two sets of 3 x 5 using 2 1/2" squares- EACH should measure 6 1/2 x 10 1/2.
Cut the bottom piece 6 1/2 x 10 1/2.
Sew the patchwork to each side of the bottom piece.
Layer it with batting and backing and quilt it.
Sew a basting stitch around the edges.

Using 2" squares:
Sew two sets of 4 x 7 using 2" squares--it should measure 6 1/2 x 11.
Cut the bottom piece 6 1/2 x 11.
Assemble and quilt as described above.

Fold in half with right sides together and sew side seams with 1/4" seam.
Zig zag seam to finish.
To make the boxy bottom fold side seam toward center,
measure 2 1/2" in from corner and draw a 5" long line from side to side with the seam in the center.
Baste on the line and see if you like how it will sit.

Sew on the drawn line.
Trim off excess corner piece.
Zig zag seam to finish.
Sew binding around the top edge to finish it. Cut binding 2 3/4" x 24" (plenty long).
Iron in half with right sides together. Fold one end in 1/4" and pin binding.
Begin sewing (3/8" seam) 2" from end--about where the first pin is.

When you get back around to the start tuck the binding into the beginning piece.

It should overlap about an inch.

Flip binding to other side and either sew by hand or machine to finish.

Enjoy!!

Sew cute. I did call the shop to order the license plate.
