Blocks 8 to 13--Chunky Churndash, Crayon Box, Crumbs Crumbs Crumbs, Crumb Hearts,Dancing 9 Patch, Diamond Strings

I had a wonderful day sewing today!
These are all blocks from Bonnie Hunter's Quiltville web blog.
I'm going through the blocks alphabetically making at least one of each.

Note the "party" sashing in this block. Today is my brother's birthday.
So I used party fabric for him. Happy birthday, Doug!

The string piece I made was long enough for 2 full blocks and 2 extra pieces.

Yay my box is getting full. More blocks tomorrow.....

It rained and hailed and snowed today. So I sewed.

Bathrobe Block 3--Bonnie's Basket

So it's raining here and nothing to do but sew, sew, sew. Bonnie's Basket block was fairly easy to piece.

Scrap Crystals plus first 3 blocks on the design wall.

My Bathrobe box is getting filled.  It's still raining so.....time to sew.

Bathrobe Block 2--Basket-Weave-Strings

For my Basket-weave-Strings blocks I used my Sudoku calendar pages that I was done with for the foundations. My blocks are 5" finished. I made 4 blocks to get the gist of the weave.

The fabrics used for the string blocks all came out of my scrap bin.

I've added this block to my Bathrobe Box.
Next up is Bonnie's Basket.

Bathrobe Challenge: Block 1-- 2" cornerstone

The first block in the list of Bonnie's free patterns is the 2" Cornerstone. It was easy to make and I can make more to help in the setting of all the odd size blocks to come.

This goes into the Bathrobe Box added to the scrap crystals block.

This box will be full before I assemble and quilt the bathrobe.
Stay tuned for block 2...

Quilt Challenge

This is a block called Scrap Crystals that I made after seeing it on Bonnie Hunter's blog quiltville.blogspot.com.
There are 62 free block patterns on her blog. The challenge I propose is to make one of every block and then put them together into a sampler quilt or ....a bathrobe!

I've collected a bunch of fabrics to get started with....

Below is the bathrobe I made (long ago!) from orphan blocks, UFO projects, even a completed set of 1992 calendar blocks.

The back has a round robin miniature quilt sewn by my quilt bee friends.

I even included a photo transfer of the quilt bee!

This photo has to predate the bathrobe (label says 2001) and since this photo was taken 4 members have moved away and one precious member has passed away. We love you, Karen, and put a patch for you in each quilt we make.

The reason I need a new quilted bathrobe is because I machine quilted this one with invisible nylon thread and the inside of the bathrobe is scratchy on bare arms!

So who is with me on the quest to make all of Bonnie's free blocks???

Batiks Rule

It was a beautiful morning to sew. The sun was shining on the snow.

Ta Da! It measures 103" x 103"! Does this qualify as a king size quilt? I'll call it "Batiks Rule"

Tough to get a good photo, I don't have floor space that big! And it's snowy outside...

One thing is for sure...I won't be quilting this myself. Too heavy already without batt and backing.
Should be great to sleep under though. Yay!!

March Snow!

The snow was really pretty today and thankfully it only accumulated on the grass and trees, not the roads or driveway.

And all the rows of the quilt are ready to be sewn to sashing...

tomorrow maybe.

Quilt Assembly Day

Today I'm sewing the blocks together into rows. It's so nice to be sewing bright batiks on this snowy day in March.

My pile of "Leaders & Enders" is ready to sew between block assembly. See Bonnie Hunter's blog Quiltville's Quips and Snips for info on using leaders and enders to make a quilt between other sewing projects.  Leaders & Enders

The rows are looking nice....

Add a row of sashing and voila!
Time to take a break from sewing to go on a snowy dog walk.

I started making blocks called Jared Takes a Wife from Bonnie Hunters blog Quiltvilles Quips and Snips.
I've got 13 blocks done in batik fabrics.
I'm going to alternate them with an altered Jared block.

"Time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time" from the 1912 book Phrynette Married by Marte Troly-Curtin.

I have set aside these word blocks but I truly enjoyed learning a new technique as I made them. So it was NOT wasted time!!
