Sewing Machine Dustcover w/Ties

I had a need to cover my NC machine while not in use -- like when I'm in MD! So I looked through interesting quilt blocks that I wanted to try and found one that I modified to suit my project. The simplest way to make a dustcover is to make a rectangular quilt and add ties. That was my method.

This is the original pattern I modified.
Because my machine sits down in a table I needed a 22" cover from front to back.
These blocks are 11" each PLUS the setting fabric.

So I modified the pattern to be 9" x 11".

I love the background fabric and chose these batiks to go with it.

This is the back. (Thanks, Mom!)
I quilted following the orange lines first, then green, then white.

On the front side I quilted between the previous lines of quilting.
My bobbin thread was white and the top thread was multi-colored.

I cut 4 ties 1 1/2" x 18" and double folded them, stitched both long sides, then sewed them 5" from each end.

The quilt is 17 1/2" x 22 1/2". The strip of fabric between the blocks was cut 2 1/2" wide and the strips on either end of the quilt were cut 1 1/2". To make the quilt wide enough I added 3 1/2" strips to both sides.
Tied.

Done!

Fabric Wrapped Clothesline Basket

This is a fabric wrapped clothesline basket that I made in September 2015. I never blogged about it because I didn't have the time or inclination. But I have trouble finding photos of this project so I'll post them here for easy storage. :) The basket bottom was about 12" round when I began the sides. The sides continued until I had used the entire length of clothesline. I think it was a 100 ft package. The sides of the basket rise about 6". This method is in the book called "It's A Wrap" by Susan Breier.

Beginning with a pile os 3/4" strips of Kaffe Fasset fabric strips and a package of cotton clothesline...

You can make a fabric wrapped basket.

The bottom of the basket is just one red fabric that I had yardage of.

The sides of the basket have all the pretty colors.
The little zippered case shown in the bowl is about 4" x 4".

The basket now holds all the fat quarters of Kaffe Fasset fabric that I have.
