Auntie Bee's Purse Step 1

The first step to making your very own quilted purse that looks like an older version of the "On The Go" bag is to make a quilt panel that is 18" x 45" using the outer purse fabric sandwiched with the lining.

I drew a chalk line on a 60 degree angle in the center of the panel then quilted lines about 3/4" apart using the walking foot as a guide. I went back and forth from the center to the end, then repeated it from the center to the other end.

After quilting one direction draw another diagonal line in the center and repeat this process the other way. These are called "hanging diamonds" and that's how almost all VB bags are quilted.

This is an original "On The Go" bag in Bali Gold. There is a nice stripe down the center that will be defining the inner pockets.

A zippered pocket hides on the back side.

Three divided pockets are on the inside front.

The end pockets are the perfect size for a cell phone.

My panel is quilted, washed and dried. The panel did shrink after washing but 16" x 40" is the minimum necessary.
